a friend of mine gave me her slow cooker when she decided the ratio between uses and how much storage space it was taking up was irrational. i graciously accepted and told her i would gladly toss my microwave to fit the cooker. foolish? my mom would say no (she hates microwaves and says if you microwave water before using it to water plants, they will die – i assume she means after she lets the water cool down).
in my search for something to make i found this elegant recipe for chai-spice pear apple sauce. it has just enough vanilla and chai to make it its own. the pear gives it a much smoother texture than applesauce, the original. i put it on toast, ate it as a snack, and best of all: made myself a saucy sundae with rich vanilla ice cream – BOMB.
chai-spice pear apple sauce adapted from design crush
-5 medium apples: peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2 inch chunks
-5 medium pears: peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2 inch chunks
-1 tsp lemon juice
-5 tbsp brown sugar
-1 tsp ground cinnamon
-1/2 tsp ground ginger
-1/2 tsp ground allspice
-1/2 tsp ground cloves
-1 tsp vanilla extract
heat on low for 4-6 hours in a slow cooker, stirring about 1/hour. blend together. if you are looking for a chunkier sauce, blend only half. voila!
