small things

want to nosh on some small things 🙂 ? this weekend i found a few appetizers that really rocked my boat. i also found a new  place to breath on a late sunday night (probably one of the last to find it).

french onion dip. one that rivals lays. bring it lays. held over my pomegranate white-wine spritzer.

4 cups chopped onions

1 tablespoon olive oil

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups vegetable broth

2 tablespoons vinegar

1 1/2 cups fat free greek yogurt

1. heat oil in a large skillet, add onions and salt, cook 10-15 minutes.

2. add broth and simmer until mostly evaporated, 20-25 minutes.

3. add vinegar and cook 2-5 more minutes until onions are browned and most of liquid is evaporated.

4. let onion mixture cool for about 20 minutes and then mix with greek yogurt.

5. refrigerate until cold.

honey-roasted plum with ricotta chive baguette. mix some ricotta, chive, and parmesan together. cut a plum, drizzle olive oil over it, and broil. toast a baguette with the cheese mixture and top with fruit.

darren and i caught a pinch of the sunday scaries and got off our butts to “get something done” aka take toshi to the park. it’s kind of exhilarating going to a dark park without anyone else there. we parked right next to it, opened the door, and let toshi make a run for it – he disappeared immediately. the view from the park a few blocks from our house is really fun. it’s high up on the hill and you can see towards sutro tower and down to the marina and tiburon.

our late night trek to the park inspired us to take a late night drive to twin peaks boulevard, and this is what we found:

do you ever just need a place to contemplate and breath? baker beach has been one of those staples. montana de oro in san luis obispo has been another. this is my most recent addition.

smells like tourists and barcelona, but only 10 minutes from home. the small things make the week – especially when you spend a sunday refreshing yahoo fantasy football. what was up with that yahoo? as frustrating as victor cruz.
